President of Bancolombia, (CEO) of a leading Financial Group with more than 30 million customers across Colombia, Panama, El Salvador, Guatemala, and the United States, operating through a model that drives community transformation, listening to the new realities of the environment, and understanding the needs of stakeholder groups, with a team of over 30,000 employees committed to promoting sustainable development to achieve the well-being of all.
He holds a degree in Business Administration from EAFIT University in Medellín, Colombia, and a Master’s in Business Administration from Babson College, United States.
He has held various positions in Corporate Finance and Investment Banking within the organization. In 2004, he was appointed Vice President of Operations at Corfinsura. In 2005, he took on the role of Vice President of Risk Management at Bancolombia, and from 2005 to 2011, he served as Vice President of Technology and Innovation Management. Until 2015, he led the Corporate Services Vice Presidency, and later became Corporate Vice President of Innovation and Digital Transformation, a role in which he structured a team dedicated to enhancing innovation and digital banking for the benefit of clients. Since May 1, 2016, he has served as the President of Bancolombia.
Over his more than 30 years at Bancolombia, he has built a solid leadership path, playing a key role as a driver of transformation processes, intrapreneurship, and sustainability, promoting more conscious banking and reaffirming the higher purpose of generating well-being for all.
He led the company’s entry into the Dow Jones Sustainability Index, which allows Bancolombia to be recognized as the most sustainable bank of America.
He is a promoter of Fundación Bancolombia, supporting and focusing its efforts on making Colombia’s rural areas a growth engine. He has played a key role in promoting the strategy of diversity, equity, and inclusion, successfully transforming relationships with stakeholders and fostering the creation of equal opportunities for all.
He is part of the B Team and, since 2024, a member of its Board of Directors. The B Team is a global group of leaders working to promote conscious leadership and redefine business practices. Additionally, he co-chairs the CFLI initiative for Colombia, which focuses on closing the financing gap for climate initiatives and accelerating Colombia’s commitment to meeting its Nationally Determined Contributions under the Paris Agreement.
He currently chairs the Board of the Committee for University-Business-State Cooperation (CUEE), a collaboration aimed at promoting actions to improve the productivity and competitiveness of strategic productive sectors. This initiative, promoted by academia, seeks to contribute to the growth and competitiveness of the city, region, and country from Antioquia. In addition to this role, he is part of the Board of Directors of Acumen, a global nonprofit impact investment fund focused on investing in social enterprises that serve low-income individuals.
